Youth Umpire Program

EBYA Baseball is once again offering our youth umpire program to anyone ages 13 to 18 who is interested in learning about and becoming an umpire for EBYA during our 2024 season.

If you or someone you know is interested, the EBYA Youth Umpires Training session will be held in a single outdoor instructional session. New youth umpires a required to atrend and previously trained youth umpires should also plan on attend.

Training Details:

Sunday, March 17, 2024 from 4:00pm to 6:00pm, Spatola Park, 17 Raleigh Dr., Downingtown, PA 19335.
Rain date is Saturday, March 23, 2024 from 4:00pm to 6:00pm, at East Brandywine Community Park, Field A, 440 Dilworth Rd, Downingtown, PA 19335.

Please bring your glove and mask if you have one for the on-field session. If you don't have one, don't worry! You can still participate in the session!

All individuals who complete the required sessions will be eligible to be a paid umpire for 2024 with EBYA.

Program Description

EBYA Baseball Commission has once again endorsed the Youth Umpire Program for the 2024 season.

Requirements to participate in the program:

13-18 years old
Reasonable availability to umpire weeknight and occasional Saturday games at EBYA fields
Attend instructional session and commit to learn rules, umpire mechanics, and game management skills, and implement with confidence

Goals for the program:

Provide capable youth to umpire (plate) for EBYA Minor Division games
Provide advanced youth to umpire (plate and bases) for EBYA Major Division games
Provide opportunity for youth to build on their baseball knowledge, learn a new life-long vocation, and make some money!

The 2024 EBYA Youth Umpire program will look very similar to previous years. Although the main goal of our Program is to provide umpires for our Minor division games, we will place a greater emphasis on preparing the experienced (and willing) youth umpires to "move-up" and umpire behind the plate and the bases for our Major division games.

Umpires will be paid $40 per game for work behind the plate.

Game assignments will be made based on your availability and an attempt to spread the assignments across the pool of umpires. Remember, your game assignments represent your commitment to the youth umpire program, the players, coaches, and the league. No shows will not be tolerated and will jeopardize your participation in this program.
