EBYA Soccer News
Welcome to our EBYA Spring Soccer season!

Registration closed on Friday at midnight with 881 kids registered. Late registration opens on Monday so that we may fill any openings. If divisions are full, we will use a wait-list.

And while it doesn't quite look like soccer weather at Community Park, the season will quickly be upon us!

We have some useful notes below as we prepare to setup our divisions and assign players to teams.
Communications and Expectations

* This is an all-volunteer, recreational soccer league. Our league promotes fun and fundamentals with our emphasis on the kids
* Your child's division commissioner will send an introductory email within a few days
* Many of our divisions are in need of additional head coach volunteers. Our league does not exist without volunteers. Please consider stepping up. We have more coaching resources than ever!
* If you volunteer to coach - your child(ren) will be assigned to your team
* Coach pairings are not guaranteed. We do our best to honor a single assistant coach request. We do not honor multiple assistant coach requests.
* Siblings in the same division and twins, triplets, etc will be assigned to the same team
* We politely ignore all carpool, teammate, and coach requests. If you are unable to accommodate your team assignment, we will issue a refund
* We will consider, but may not 100% honor, practice night conflicts and we may not honor sibling practice night coordination requests. If you are unable to accommodate your practice night assignment, we will issue a refund
* Key dates are on ourSoccer Websiteand also may be found at the end of this email. Over the next week, we will develop our division layouts based upon the number of players registered. With sufficient volunteers, we will be assigning players to teams during the weeks of March 18th and 25th. If volunteers are lacking, team assignments will be delayed.
* Team assignments and schedules will be announced via automatic emails from our website
* Each team will have a weeknight practice at 6PM. Games are played on Saturdays with games beginning as early as 8AM and ideally no games starting later than 3PM. Practices start the week of April 1st. First game day is Saturday, April 6th.
* We have one Sunday game-day scheduled (May 19th) and we also reserve Sundays for make-up games with rescheduled games played at their original Saturday game time
* Look for weekly email blasts to the Soccer league on Friday afternoons with updates and info

Prepare for the Season

* All players must wear shin guards - you can often get them as part of a combo pack including cleats and a soccer ball at your local sports retailer. Helpful note - Socks are worn OVER your player's shin guards.
* We have Fan Wear, direct-shipped by Dick's Sporting Goods, available for purchase choose the STORE menu orclick here to visit the Fan Ware store
* Two highlighted rules within ourFAQs- earrings must be removedfor practices and games, and there is no heading the ball in practices or games, at any age level
* Sunday makeup games. Heads up that we will have games on Sunday, May 19th as we rest on the following Memorial Day weekend. As far as any make-up games - With up to 36 teams practicing on any given weeknight, we only have Sundays available to makeup rain-outs.
* We will attempt to makeup as many games as possible if weather interferes. Coaches may schedule make-up practices, if desired. Division commissioners will designate a practice field at the requested make-up date/time
* We do not make-up games cancelled due to snow

Hey Coaches!

* We provide practice plans viaYouthSoccer101.comto simplify your coaching experience. The program also includes an online video training series.
* We are working to schedule coach meetings, coach clinics and team drafts (for older divisions). Stay tuned
* All coaches must submit a background check. Details are on ourSafety Info page

Star Soccer Academyis excited to be back for its record setting 36th consecutive year of summer soccer camps. We are looking forward to our 4th year at East Brandywine Community Park after a successful first two years with over 100 campers in 2018. Our camp is for boys and girls ages 5-14 of all levels. We pride ourselves on combining instruction with competition and most importantly FUN. Mornings consist of technical instruction through fun games to teach and develop all the necessary skills to grow as a player. Afternoons consist of various competitions such as World Cup, Baby World cup (2v2), 3v3, and skills. Star Soccer offers both half day and full-day options but most campers participate in full day to maximize their opportunity to receive prizes during our awards presentation on the last day. Our hope is that each child will walk away from camp with a stronger passion for the game!

Star Soccer's Co- Directors are Andrew Kummerer and Skip Roderick. Andrew is an EBYA alum and local resident who has been running camps for the past 14 years. He is currently a club travel coach with Continental FC and is the Head Varsity Coach at Malvern Prep. Skip Roderick is in his 36th year as Head Coach at Elizabethtown College and has been running Star Soccer for the same duration. Together they put out a great experience for the kids to learn, laugh, and love the game of soccer.
